At SWACS, our curriculum is designed to do more than just check boxes—it’s designed to make learning exciting and relevant. We beleive that students learn best when they see how everything connects.

Thematically
Integrated
Curriculum

A Framework for Deeper Learning

Our Thematic Integration approach connects subjects like history, literature, and science, showing students the real-world relationships between ideas. Instead of learning history one hour and science the next, our students explore big ideas and themes, leading to a more substantive understanding of how the world works.

Custom-Built Excellence:

We have made the decision to design our own unique curriculum from the ground up, rather than using an off-the-shelf program. This ensures every lesson is precisely tailored to our mission and fully meets the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS).

The Power of Repetition:

We use a Spiral Curriculum model. Foundational concepts are introduced early (starting in Pre-K) and then revisited year after year with increasing complexity. This guarantees that knowledge is not forgotten; it is continuously reinforced and built upon until mastery is achieved.

A Focus on
Academic
Language

Building a Powerful Academic Vocabulary

Academic language is the gateway to college and career success. We give students the linguistic tools they need to master complex content.

Explicit Vocabulary:

We directly teach and systematically build academic vocabulary (words like analyze, synthesize, and compare). This deliberate focus is particularly powerful for all students, ensuring every child can access challenging concepts.

Root Word Mastery

Starting in 1st grade, students will learn Greek and Latin root words. This is a powerful tool that instantly unlocks the meaning of thousands of complex scientific and technical words they will encounter throughout their lives.
